Every educator has faced this challenge: a student who just doesn’t seem to “get it,” no matter what approach you try. What if the key to reaching every learner isn’t about finding the right program or intervention, but about understanding how their brain actually works?
The 35th Annual National Dropout Prevention Conference brings together educators ready to explore this question through Dr. Linda Jordan’s keynote, “Learning About The Brain Changes Everything.”
Dr. Jordan’s journey into neuroscience began with a simple but powerful question: “How does the brain actually learn?” As both a mother and educator, she found herself searching for deeper understanding about the brain—”the most important tool we use every day.” That curiosity sparked what she describes as “a lifelong passion for unlocking the brain’s potential.”
Today, Dr. Jordan combines remarkable credentials with genuine experience. Her Ed.D. research focused specifically on the neuroscience of learning, while her teaching experience spans from preschool through college. As a founding member of the Midwest Brain and Learning Institute at Hope College, she’s dedicated her career to translating brain science into practical classroom applications. Through her online certification program in Advanced Learning and her role in Lynn University’s doctoral program, she continues sharing this knowledge with educators everywhere.
“Neuroscience” is the why behind great teaching,” Dr. Jordan explains. “When we understand how the brain stores and retrieves information, we can design lessons that truly stick.” She emphasizes that “all learning is emotional,” helping teachers understand the connection between emotion and learning to reach students on multiple levels.
This keynote focuses on practical applications you can use immediately:
For educators working with students who struggle in traditional settings, understanding the brain becomes essential. When you know how stress, trauma, and different experiences affect learning, you can create more supportive environments that truly meet students where they are.
Dr. Jordan’s approach connects brain science with proven strategies for supporting students who need extra help staying engaged and on track to graduate.
This session welcomes teachers, administrators, curriculum leaders, professional development providers, and anyone interested in leveraging neuroscience to enhance learning and teaching.
Dr. Jordan’s focus on practical application means you’ll leave with tools you can actually use in real classrooms with real challenges. Educators who apply brain-based learning approaches often see improvements in student engagement, better classroom environments, and stronger connections with their students.
Understanding how the brain works shouldn’t be reserved for neuroscientists—it’s knowledge that belongs in every classroom. Dr. Jordan’s keynote offers a chance to learn from someone who combines deep expertise with practical experience and genuine passion for helping educators succeed.
